Mother of the bride. It doesn’t sound very sexy or exciting. The phrase alone has this connotation of being matronly and dowdy, but we actually love the fact that there are no rules or guidelines for what mom should wear giving them a limitless variety of amazing fashion choices.

Today we turn to some of Hollywood’s leading ladies for a little red carpet inspiration. From industry veterans to fresh new faces, they show off some looks that would translate wonderfully into a graceful mother of the bride or groom look. Yes, we know that mom’s probably not a 5’10 perfectly shaped model, but that doesn’t mean that she can’t wear a color and a shape that is flattering to her body…

1. Dame Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka

Helen Mirren looked stunning as usual in her royal blue Badglet Mischka gown at the 2012 Golden Globe awards. To get this look, consider this Tadashi Soji Mesh Gown and pair with a sparkly purse, drop earrings and even a sash.

2. Julianne Moore – Pretty in Pink

Julianne wore this to the 13th annual Hollywood Film Festival awards gala in 2009 and we love the color and those sleeves! It reminds us of this Siri sheath in pink which can be worn with or without a sash. Its fun, flattering and elegant and we love this look for Mom!

3.  Debra Messing in Monique Lhuillier

Smash’s Debra Messing looke classic at this years Golden Globe awards in this one shouldered Monique Lhuillier gown. It’s all about the glamour with this dress, which is why we adore this lovely David Meister brocade gown. Pair with chandelier earrings and perhaps a bangle and we have a stunning wedding day look.

4. Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera

What’s not to love about this magenta Carolina Herrera gown that Glee’s Dianna Agron wore to the 2012 SAG awards? Yes, she is a twenty something, but we still think this look would be amazing for Mom, especially this BCBG v-neck dress - from the sash to the floral appliques, this dress is 100% feminine elegance.

5. Goldie at Cannes

At 65, Goldie Hawn looked great at Cannes in this blush one shoulder gown. We love the look of draping fabric and flutter sleeves and think this Calvin Klein dress is simply stunning.

6. Michelle Williams in Valentino

Michelle Williams has such timeless style and we especially loved her gorgeous Valentino gown at this years SAG awards. For a similar draping effect, we picked this BCBG gown that has beautiful pleating and draping and would look wonderful on any figure. Pair with a wrap or a bolero.
